Middleton School Changes Update (Jan 19)

By

Dear Middleton Families,

I want to thank you for your patience, grace, and understanding as we have continued to work on the detailed plan for our school in response to this week’s weather impacts. Following extensive assessment of our building and consultation with construction experts, I want to share with you the details of where we are at and the timeline for returning to school

First, flood damage from a burst pipe has occurred in our PreK, Kinder, 1st grade, and 2nd grade classrooms. This damage has significantly impacted 12 classrooms, and in order to prevent mold, replace damaged sheetrock, and replace damaged classroom materials and furniture, the current estimate is that it will be at least 4 weeks of cleanup and repairs required.

In order to return these students to learning as quickly as possible and keep classes intact with their teachers, it will be necessary for these grades to be temporarily relocated to alternative schools or classrooms by grade as follows:

  • PreK will relocate to Hawks View Elementary (21970 SW Sherwood Blvd, 97140)
  • Kinder and 1st grade will relocate to Ridges Elementary (21472 SW Copper Terrace, 97140)
  • 2nd Grade will stay at Middleton, but will relocate to a different space on campus

In order for teachers to move classroom and student materials to their new locations and setup for students to return, PreK, Kinder, 1st grade, and 2nd grade will not have school on Monday, January 22. These grades will return to school at their relocation sites on Tuesday, January 23.

For the full details of our relocation plans for PreK-2, please visit the following link: https://www.smore.com/vjkhs. We will also post this to our school website for reference.

Next, while there were minor leaks in classrooms for grades 3-5, these have been addressed with no damage to that area of the building. For this reason, grades 3-5 will remain in their classrooms, and will return to school on Monday, January 22.

I want to recognize the significance that this situation has for our entire school community, and how disappointing these circumstances are for our impacted students and families. Please know that our team is here to help support you and your child during this transition, and we are eager to get all of our Middleton students back in our building as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Mili Wilkinson
