Music Middleton Music Maker Choir
2019 ~ 2020

Dear Parents,

The Middleton Choir is open to motivated 4th and 5th grade students interested in extra vocal performance opportunities. We sing music of many different styles in one, two and up to five parts.  The choir performs concerts in Sherwood, Al’s Garden Center and the rotunda of the Oregon State Capitol, to name a few of our venues.  The choir rehearses on the Middleton Stage on Tuesdays from 2:20 to 3:15 p.m.  If your child chooses to participate, please make transportation plans, as I cannot provide supervision past 3:30 p.m.  I also need to remind you for the safety of the children, as well as the schools “portal-to-portal” legal obligation, we must insist that all children be provided adult assisted transport home.  We do provide crossing coverage directly in front of the school at Old Highway 99W and Timbrel so if your student lives in one of the immediate neighborhoods surrounding the school, this would be the exception.

The registration fee will be $25 which can be paid to Mr. Shepperd by check (made out to Middleton Choir), or cash. This covers transportation for  the two tours (Oregon State Capitol, Sherwood Spring Tour), music, supplies, and their own choir T-shirt.

Scholarships are available. Please see me, give me a call at 503.825.5343, or e-mail me at, write at the top of the registration form that you need a scholarship for your child.

Our winter performance schedule is:  Saturday, 12/7 Sherwood Tree Lighting 4:15 pm - 6pm

  Saturday, 12/14 Al’s Garden Center, 12:30 pm - 1:45 pm

Wednesday, 12/18 Performance for Middleton, 9 am

Thursday, 12/19 Oregon State Capitol, 8 am - 1:30 pm

Full year performance calendar is attached.

If you have time to volunteer, I need help in the following areas:

1. Volunteers to help at 3:15 get students safely into cars and across the street. *This one is the most important.

2. Volunteers to travel with the choir on bus trips.

3. Volunteers to help kids get settled in the music room and to help answer questions they may have.

4. Volunteers with musical skills to teach parts to students.

Choir Uniforms:

As part of the tuition for the  group each choir member will receive a Music Maker T-shirt.  As in the past we will ask the choir members to wear khakis and nice shoes with the choir t-shirt when we are performing. Khaki pants for the boys and either pants or skirts for the girls. No shorts or short skirts please. For the winter concerts (Tree lighting & Al’s) the singers will need to dress for the weather. Colorful scarves and hats are encouraged. Choir T’s & Khakis are not required for these two concerts.

Rehearsal and performance attendance is mandatory, and should a student make the commitment to join the choir he/she must attend all scheduled performances. If your child misses a rehearsal or performance due to illness please send me a note. If a child misses three rehearsals or one performance and I have received no notes from the parent, he/she may be dropped from the choir.  Should your child decide to participate in choir, please complete the attached registration form with the registration fee, and return to Mr. Shepperd by the first rehearsal.

Our first rehearsal is scheduled for Tuesday, September 24th on the stage at 2:20 p.m. sharp.

I am looking forward to an exciting year of making music with the choir.

Harold Shepperd
