Music Assessment & Evaluation in the
Sherwood School District
At this time Kindergarten students will not receive a grade for Music.
Students in grades 1-5 will receive two grades - one for CORE CONTENT and another for FOLLOWS DIRECTIONS.
Follows directions will be scored on a 1-4 scale (1 = low; 4 = high). These marks will be assigned based on thoughtful and active participation in music class. Specific criteria for this evaluation are outlined in the Work Habits Rubric.

Core Content will be scored on a 1-4 scale (1 = low; 4 = high). These grades will reflect the extent to which a child has attained the grade level proficiency standards set forth in the National Standards for Music Education and the Performance Standards for Music (MENC, 1996). A score of 3 or higher is considered to be meeting grade level standards. Students will receive one combined score for core content that reflects based proficiency-based assessment in three standard areas: singing, playing on instruments, and reading & notating music.
